Do you remember the seagull scene in ‘Finding Nemo’ where those seagulls were after Marlin and Dory?
Now just imagine the exact scene but with french-fries.
Unlike ‘Finding Nemo’, in this case, Hannah Huxford was there at the right time to capture the gull gulping French fries.
In 2011, Hannah was in England. She was visiting Bridlington, a coastal town on the Yorkshire coast with her husband.
That day they bought a bag of fries and while munching on them Hannah noticed a herring seagull nearby. As her husband was tossing some fries to the bird, Hannah started taking photos with her iphone3.
Among all the images, there was a special one catching the moment just before the British gull shut its mouth on a delicious salty fry.
That seagull went viral soon as the photo was featured on BBC, Telegraph and other local media.
In 2012, Hannah wrote in a blog post, “He was fascinating to see and no one was afraid. All he wanted was a tip! I took his snapshots on my iPhone3 many times. I found this amazing photo of him all at once only when I got home and downloaded the photo.”
This could be the end of the story as the media frenzy soon died down.

But guess what? Ten years later, that photo reappeared. As part of Google’s advertising campaign, the fry-stealing seagulls appeared on UK and Irish billboards in 2021.
Captioned “What are you looking for this summer?” the photo’s been on Google billboards for 30 days and on company online ads for the next 12 months.
